Atlas Ocean Voyages Expedition Cruises, Booked by Travel Consultants Who Know the Seas

Atlas Ocean Voyages pairs true adventure with five-star yacht comfort. Its small, ice-strengthened ships carry fewer than 200 guests to Antarctica, the Falklands and South Georgia, the Arctic, Iceland, Norway’s fjords and Patagonia, with naturalist-led hikes, Zodiac landings and kayaking, and a fare that covers dining, fine wines and spirits, Wi-Fi, gratuities and polar expedition gear. Below, we share what clients love and what to know, candidly, including the seas you will cross. We match you to the right voyage, ship and stateroom, at the same price you would pay booking direct.

What an Atlas Ocean Voyages expedition feels like

This is a bucket-list trip, and one you can chronicle that most people will never experience. Large ships bring you within a distance of the view. Atlas’s yacht-style ships get you into the middle of the action: narrow fjords, ice floes and quiet landings where the wildlife outnumbers the people.

Then you return on board to five-star comfort and elegance. On polar voyages, private charter flights get you to the ship, so the journey starts the way the rest of it goes.

What our clients tell us

We share the good and the not-so-good, based on the feedback we receive, so you can make the right decision for you.

What they love: the ratings for this experience are off the charts. Ship quality and cleanliness, crew and hospitality, dining, itineraries and adventure all rate at the very top, so people tend to love it. Meals consistently receive high marks, menus rotate with the locally sourced food available, and vegetarians love the menu too. The staff are professional, friendly and engaging, and experienced at guiding guests through unfamiliar territory.

What to know: you need to understand the seas you are about to experience. The Drake Passage is known for some of the roughest water in the world, and the North Atlantic can be just as lively. If you are the least bit susceptible to motion sickness, we need to talk. This is not something to take lightly, and it could truly affect the experience.

Atlas sails to Antarctica from Ushuaia, Argentina. Explore the ice floes and watch for penguins, seals, whales and orcas. Longer voyages add the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, home to vast king penguin colonies.

Polar voyages include a pre-cruise hotel night and private charter air. On select dates, Fly & Sail options use King George Island to skip the Drake Passage one way or both ways, worth knowing if the crossing gives you pause.

The Arctic, Iceland and Northern Europe

Head north to sail pristine fjords, see massive glaciers and watch for whales. In Svalbard and Canada’s Churchill, the Arctic is polar bear country. Iceland and Greenland bring waterfalls, ice and wide-open landscapes.

Closer to Europe, explore the Scottish Highlands, Nordic ports and secluded Norwegian fjords. Or head south to Patagonia, from the Chilean fjords to Puerto Madryn on Argentina’s coast.

A true adventure

Naturalists and expedition guides lead hikes, Zodiac landings and kayak outings, and the polar plunge is there for the truly adventurous. Some premium activities, such as kayaking and overnight camping, can carry an added charge and limited spaces, so we plan and reserve them with you before you sail.

What the fare covers

Fine wines and spirits are included.

Fares cover your meals, specialty dining, 24-hour room service, fine wines, craft beer and spirits, Wi-Fi, gratuities and polar expedition gear. Polar voyages add a pre-cruise hotel night and private charter air.

That makes the price you see much closer to the price you pay. Our Voyage Journal walks through how to compare cruise costs side by side: Not Another Cruise Cost Comparison, Stop Comparing Cruise Prices and Everything That’s Included. And Everything That Isn’t.

Staterooms with nothing in the way

Staterooms are comfortable and feature floor-to-ceiling Horizon windows, so none of the view is obscured. When the glacier is outside your window, you see all of it.

Candidly, know your seas: Jim’s father served in the Navy aboard a 365-foot destroyer that took North Atlantic waves over the wheelhouse, 30 to 35 feet above the waterline. Even a ship that size rocked and bounced. The Drake Passage and the North Atlantic deserve respect. Talk to your travel consultant and learn what it can be like before you decide this is for you. If they don’t know, find someone who does. Remember: we do this every day.
